Born Lucerne, Switzerland 1893. Novelist. Arrived in Australia when he was six months old with parents. Originally wrote under pseudonyms Martin Miles and also Martin a'Beckett. Later lived in Italy 1958. Died 3 June 1972. Best known works: The Montforts; Lucinda Brayford; The Cardboard Crown; A Difficult Young Man; Outbreak of Love; When Blackbirds Sing.
